Travis is proud to be a cub scout. Angela organized the recent Blue and Gold Banquet and they had an Angry Birds theme. The boys had a cake decorating contest and here's Travis with his cake. He made the banana cake on his own and chose how to decorate it to look like the Angry Birds game.
Next was the Pinewood Derby and Travis and Brian had a good time preparing for it. Travis selected a hot wheels car that he liked (a police car) and they started figuring out how to make the block of wood look like his car.
Travis enjoyed using Dad's dremel tool and he did a lot of sanding.
The paint job was quite complicated and took many coats of paint. They decided to make gold colored windows. Here's Travis taking the paint off from the gold coat.
Here he is showing off his finished car. Brian applied several coats of lacquer paint to give it a really shiny finish and protect the wood. Brian also spent some time getting the wheels to roll smoothly.
Before the actual races, they had an awards ceremony where Travis got his Wolf advancement. This was his first chance to pin on an award on his mom's shirt (a rite of passage for all scouts).

Travis' car was pretty fast but he didn't win his heat so he was feeling a bit down. He enjoyed it overall and Brian tried to counsel him before it all to tell him that he might not win but that it was ok. After the racing they handed out awards for the best design and Travis' car won first place for best design! He was very happy about that.
