Alien Capital of the World: Roswell

After Albuquerque we headed down towards Carlsbad but on the way we visited the alien capital of the world: Roswell, New Mexico. Before we arrived in Roswell, as we were driving through the desert, Brian noticed something in the sky. It took Angela a bit longer to find it but we both saw it. It was white and looked to be far away. It stayed in the same place. It was our very own UFO sighting! We grabbed our cameras to capture some evidence. Here was one of the better photos (remember it's very hard to focus the camera on something so small in a plain blue background).

Ok, so you saw nothing, now zoom in on the above photo and you see the UFO (see below). Brian is pretty sure it's a weather balloon. Brian has learned a lot about the history of UFO sightings and we have seen a couple of them in Los Alamos as well. Weather balloons were actually used and still are used today. They were used back in the major alien sighting days for nuclear explosion monitoring. The details are complex but if you're interested Brian could explain it to you. In fact, weather balloons carrying special microphones actually detected the first nuclear explosion that the Soviets tested in 1949.

In Roswell we spent some time at one of the parks there since our boys wouldn't have enjoyed the alien museum. Here are Brian and the boys in a playground rocket ship.

Here is one of the souvenir shops in downtown Roswell that gives you a good flavor for the town. Look closely at the light post, do you see an alien's head?

Haha! Roswell is so interesting. Did you guys get a chance to go the Roswell Museum and Research Center? I hear they take the research part pretty seriously.
