Travis electrocutes himself

So last night we had a scary experience that turned out as fortunate as it could have. After we had read stores to Travis and told him good night, he was still awake (as if often the case). Well he decided to do some playing. He has been fascinated with his night light recently. He found a key ring and slid it behind the night light, which connected an electrical circuit which drew tons of electrical power. He told us that he saw the flash and then jumped back to his bed (3 feet behind him). We saw the lights flicker. Then he must have gone back and unplugged the night light because Brian heard the night light hit the floor moments after the lights flickered. Don't know why he felt he needed to unplug it. Somehow our fuse didn't trip even though obviously lots of current was flowing. The outlet did get fried as I can't detect any voltage at the outlet.
Travis didn't make a sound after it happened until Angela opened his door, then he really started crying. We don't know the extent of how it affected him, though he did get a blister on his thumb. Here he is making faces as I'm taking his picture.

We were not angry with him at all, instead we were just so very glad that he wasn't hurt worse. How scary that could have been! We have told him over and over that only Mom and Dad touch the outlet and plug things in. Maybe now he realizes why.

That is scary. I'm glad he's ok!

I'm a huge freak about safety stuff in the house. The moment Josh went into a big bed, I went on a hunt for the perfect kid proof night light and found it!!

Go to babies r us. They have a night light that replaces your electrical plate on the wall. So take the plate off, replace with the new plate that has an attached nightlight, by screwing it to the wall and the bottom plug has a kid proof cover on it. It is light sensored so it goes on and off as needed AND you can adjust the brightness. It is worth all $7 for a kid that is fascinated by nightlights!!

We're glad he's o.k! Tyler stuck the keys in an outlet when he was 2
and gave himself a good shock.
