Our little Lou-key had his first trip to the ER today. Angela got out her 3 pound barbell weights to work out and left them on the couch for just a minute and little curious Lucas came over to investigate them. Well he pulled one off the couch and it landed on his big toe and smashed it pretty bad. He screamed for nearly an hour and it really was bleeding. Brian came home from work early and we took Lucas to the ER. We did X-rays which came back fine (apparently babies toes don't have much bone in them yet so there's not much danger of breaking them). Lucas' toe nail was nearly torn off. They wanted to stitch the nail back onto his toe, but that would have required putting him out, and we didn't want that unless it was necessary. So they numbed his toe for a few minutes. Angela left at this point because she couldn't stand seeing Lucas like this. Then they came back in and Brian held him tight while they inserted his nail back in the proper place and wrapped his foot up pretty thick.

Within 5 minutes of them finishing the wrapping of his foot, he was happy again. Later Brian put his jammies on him and got him really giggling. He's quite a trooper. He's been able to walk around despite the thick wrapping on his foot. In a couple days we go back in to have his wrapping removed and they'll reassess his injury. The nail will fall off in a couple days, but they want it to stay on as long as possible to help the new one grow in better. The doctor said it may have permanent scaring. Watching Lucas giggle, Angela said "how can he be so happy when I've just been emotionally scared for life?" (By the way, we've spared you some of the gory details.)

Ouch! Poor little guy! He is looks so grown up since I saw him last. He's a cutie!
I understand those trips. They are not fun at all. I'm glad he is doing well. He looks like he has fun with the basketball. Ayva loves saying bah ba ball(basketball).
Just an update on Lucas' foot, we took him to the doctor today and everything's going well. His nail hasn't fallen off yet, but we need to try to keep it bandaged. He can finally take baths again, which he loves.
Poor Lucas! I accidentally shut Cameron's hand in the door last fall and I was sure that I had broken it. I was told the same thing though, about little guys not having much bone in there to break. Thank goodness!
